7 Windshield Care Tips
Looking for some windshield care tips? Look no further. F.Y.I. Winter is coming out here in Alberta. How will your windshield survive the drastic winter months? Follow our simple tips to ensure your windshield is doing its best at protecting you from the weather and anything that comes flying at you.
Clean Your Windshield
Dirt, snow and or ice will gradually build up on your windshield and overtime will prevent you from seeing clearly. Make the effort to clean your windshield before you start driving. A quick swipe with the wipers blades and some washer fluid should help. If you’re not in a rush, use a cloth or paper towel and some glass cleaner and give your windshield a nice wipe. Don’t have any glass cleaner? Try adding 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of dish soap and 1 cup of water to an empty spray bottle. That should do the trick!
Wiper Blades
Check the condition of your windshield wipers regularly. Broken or ripped windshield wipers can cause scratches on your windshield’s glass. If your wipers aren’t looking too hot, it might be time for some new ones. Canadian Tire usually has a vast selection of wiper blades for you to choose from. Not sure how to change your wiper blades? Search for it on YouTube!
Inspect Your Windshield For Chips and Cracks
When cleaning your windshield, always make sure to check for any small chips or cracks. Even the smallest chip will eventually turn into a long crack and will cost you a new windshield in the future. Always make sure to repair your rock chips as soon as possible! If you’re ever in need or a rock chip repair, feel free to contact us here.
Keep A Safe Driving Distance
Always keep a safe distance when following vehicles, especially transport and delivery trucks. We suggest staying at least 10 feet away or two car lengths away in case of any flying rocks or debris.
Park Indoors During Extreme Weather
Park inside a garage or underground parking lot in the case of any extreme weather such as a hail storm or thunderstorm.
Put Your Wiper Blades Up Before A Snowstorm
If the forecast calls for a lot of snow or freezing rain, it is always smart to pull your wiper blades up from your windshield. This will help prevent your wiper blades from freezing to the glass and prevent a lot of headaches and cuss words in the future.
Water Repellent Coatings
Look into water repellent coatings or nano coatings for your windshield. These coatings will help water slide off your windshield easily, especially during heavy rain downpours. The coating will help you see better while you’re driving and prolongs the life of your windshield wipers.
In the unfortunate event that you are in an accident, your windshield is your number 1 defense mechanism. It is in your best interest to ensure that your windshield is always in great shape. We hope these tips will help you in keeping care of your vehicle’s windshield.
